They Call Us Witches - extra date added

Join us for an evening of history, female empowerment and discussion EXTRA DATE ADDED DUE TO HIGH DEMAND Join us for They Call Us Witches, a fascinating exploration of the history of witchcraft, the witch trials and the enduring legacy of the witch. For centuries, thousands of people were accused of witchcraft, with the vast majority being women. But why were witches hunted, and why were so many of the accused female? Drawing on historical research, Charlie explores the social, religious and political forces that fuelled fear and persecution, revealing how ideas about gender, power, age, poverty and independence made certain women especially vulnerable to accusation. Together, we'll separate myth from reality and uncover the true stories behind one of history's darkest chapters. The talk also examines how the image of the witch has evolved from a figure of fear and suspicion to a modern symbol of female empowerment, resilience and self-determination and why it continues to resonate today. Following the talk, stay for a relaxed, guided discussion with Charlie and the other attendees, where you'll have the opportunity to ask questions to each other, share your thoughts and explore how the history of the witch hunts still echoes in our lives today. Perfect for anyone interested in history, folklore, women's history and the enduring power of the witch. With author and researcher, Charlie Bingham Ticket includes a glass of fizz (non-alcoholic option available). A selection of relevant books will be available to purchase on the night.
