Pneuma

Pneuma is the second of four cantos in the TRANSMISSIONS anthology from Material Matters. John will present an ambitious multi-disciplinary exhibition across the Bridewell's historic spaces using light, sound and installation to reflect on the nature of the human soul. In his curation John takes the Magnificat, that ancient song of praise, as as a starting point for a careful interpretation of the transmission of the spirit, the 'breath' (pneuma) that is both transitory and eternal. The exhibition will feature many new artworks created for Pneuma including the first public showing of his ghostly painting Niemand but also the chance to see his work exploring deep time that was featured in 2015 by the European Space Agency. The opening night will also feature the first complete recorded performance of 'A fevered auscultation of a heart's annunciation' a piece for full orchestra by composer Michael John Gerard Higgins.
