Kalam’s inaugural live debate at Kismet Café asks whether Muslim influencers strengthen public discourse—or damage it. This House Believes Muslim Influencers Are Doing more Harm than Good? From scholars and educators to lifestyle creators, campaigners and online personalities, Muslim influencers increasingly shape how Islam and Muslim life are discussed—within the community and far beyond it. Have they widened access to knowledge and representation, or rewarded simplification, controversy and personal branding at the expense of serious thought? Join Kalam at Kismet Café for a structured live debate, featuring a 3 vs. 3 debate featuring members of the Muslims community. A must-see for anyone who wants to see strong arguments tested rather than difficult disagreements avoided. What to expect: • an opening audience discussion and vote; • a chaired debate with speakers on both sides; • an audience Q&A; and • a final vote to see whether the room has changed its mind. About us Kalam is a new initiative dedicated to developing public speaking skills within the Muslim community. We believe there is a need for more skilled voices, capable of articulating ideas and thinking critically, as British Muslims navigate the complex issues they encounter in 21st Century Britain. Kalam is procedurally impartial: speakers are allocated to their side which may not represent their sincere views. Our role is to uphold the highest standard of argument and discussion and leave it up to the audience to decide based on what they hear. The event is open to people of every faith and none.
