Between the Breath

The pauses between breaths are rarely remembered, yet perhaps it is precisely there that we become aware of our own existence. A swimmer breaks the surface to breathe. A runner keeps moving in rhythm. A cursor continues blinking on an office screen. A train heads toward its next station. As everything rushes toward the future, the body keeps moving while consciousness occasionally slips off course. A breath. A lapse in attention. A drift. A deviation. They seem to change nothing, leaving no visible trace, yet they resemble brief moments in which consciousness slips away from the body, only to return, quietly recalibrated. Between the Breath is not about breathing itself, but about a contemporary experience of time. We remain constantly oriented towards the future, yet suspended in a state of becoming. Rather than celebrating rest or proposing an escape from reality, the exhibition explores the intervals between arrival and nonarrival, movement and stillness, the present and the futuremoments that appear unproductive, inconsequential, and seemingly without purpose. The future is always ahead of us, yet never fully arrives. We are looking for works that inhabit these intervals. They may speak of waiting, repetition, cycles, drifting, wandering, the notyet, incompletion, or seemingly insignificant gestures. They may also attend to those subtle moments that resist measurement, yet quietly shape the rhythms of our lives.We invite artists to reflect together: when consciousness briefly slips away from the rhythm of everyday life, where does it go? Are the moments that leave no trace any less real? What kind of time do we truly inhabit? Might another mode of existence be unfolding?
