Hannes Riepler Quartet feat Alex Hitchcock

Doors 7:45 PM, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music Line-up: Hannes Riepler - Guitar Alex Hitchcock - Tenor saxophone Niklas Lukassen - Double bass Luke McCarthy - Drum kit About: Guitarist Hannes Riepler leads a quartet of distinctive voices from the contemporary London jazz scene, bringing together original music that is lyrical, searching, and rhythmically alive. The band moves fluidly between composed material and open improvisation, balancing melodic clarity with moments of raw intensity and play. Riepler’s guitar playing sits at the centre of the music — spacious, expressive, and deeply attentive to sound and silence. As one listener put it, “Hannes Riepler plays with a rare sense of patience and purpose — every note feels chosen, and every phrase tells a story.” He is joined by Alex Hitchcock on saxophone, who is a leading international voice on the saxophone. An Ivor Novello-nominated composer and described by The Guardian as a “virtuoso” saxophonist, his innovative collaborations have confirmed a growing reputation as a catalyst for musical encounters that continually push the envelope a little further.; Niklas Lukassen displays an equally astonishing lyrical sensibility and skilful command of the upright bass, described as "a versatile bass virtuoso" by Jazzwise magazine; and Luke McCarthy on drums, driving the music with sensitivity, lift, and fire. Expect a set that is thoughtful yet adventurous — modern jazz with warmth, edge, and a strong sense of collective spirit.
