How do Educational Experiences Shape Patterns of Reoffending?

Explore what 1.5 million records reveal about how education, school exclusion and early experiences relate to reoffending. Drawing on research involving more than 1.5 million people, Dr Hannah Dickson explores how educational attainment, special educational needs and school exclusion are associated with later involvement in the criminal-justice system and different patterns of reoffending. The talk will consider the neurodevelopmental and behavioural factors that may help explain these patterns, while also examining what securely linked data can, and cannot, tell us about individual lives. The session will ask what these findings may mean for education, early intervention, public health and the way society supports people before and after they enter the criminal-justice system.
