INURA London 2027: Conference Programme Design Day In Person / Virtual

We're delighted to confirm that INURA (International Network of Urban Research and Action) is returning to London on 28 June – 4 July 2027, for the first time in twenty years. INURA is an international network of researchers and activists that has met annually since the early 1990s (founding members from London include the dearly missed Michael Edwards, Mark Saunders, and Louanne Tranchell). Its conferences centre on an initial 3-day gathering in the host city, including two days of city tours and discussions hosted by local activists and community groups, followed by an in-depth 3-day retreat outside the city. We're looking for urban activists and scholars to help shape the conference programme, and warmly invite you to join us at our collaborative organising day. For 2027, we're proposing working themes of transgenerational, translocal, and transnational activism — and with this, connecting past and present urban struggles through all sorts of territorial configurations and imaginaries regionally and internationally. INURA is much more than a conference: it's a space for collective action, dialogue, and solidarity. We look forward to thinking together with you about what a creative and productive programme might look like. We will split into small groups, perhaps organised thematically, and will work together to develop some proposals for the 2 “city tour” days, using a very flexible template we will provide, and with some examples from past conferences. By the time we meet we will have already canvassed ideas and suggestions from the INURA network’s listserve, so their suggestions will be in front of us to get us thinking about possibilities from a London perspective. We will hold a second meeting in September (date to follow). Hopefully between those two dates we can consult with our networks and colleagues to enrich the ideas. At the end of these two days we will aggregate the proposals into a provisional programme, with alternatives held in reserve. We hope that more networking and brainstorming will follow as the detailed programming emerges, in ways that could help different London-based groups and campaigns engage and take forward their work. Tea and coffee will be provided.
