Lino Printing With Chine Collé

Join artist Sophie Boyce for a wonderful day of creativity and learn how to make colourful linocut prints with chine-collé. Chine-collé is a printmaking technique used to add colour and pattern to prints without the need of multiple plates. Using adhesive, thin papers such as Japanese tissue, rice paper or newsprint are placed on an inked lino or plate and bonded to a heavier backing paper during the printing process. You'll be guided through transferring your primary image onto your block, cutting and proofing, then preparing templates and cutting or tearing thinner papers ready for your chine-collé prints. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different shapes and designs to create a series of detailed and patterned colourful prints. We'll have different coloured inks and a variety of thin papers for you to experiment with, though you're welcome to bring along any lino blocks you have made already, along with any thin papers you'd like to try printing with. At the end of the day you should have a series of 5 - 10 prints to take home along with an A5 lino or two smaller blocks to continue printing with. All tools and materials are provided. We’ll be serving lots of tea, coffee and cake throughout the day and there will be a break for lunch, when you can either eat a packed lunch or treat yourself at one of the many cafes in Teddington. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and also people with some prior knowledge of printmaking. Sophie Boyce has a BA in Graphic Design & Illustration and an MA in Printmaking from UAL and is a practicing printmaker, artist and teacher.
