Sun 13th Dec - The Lazy Hardworker

Meet Thenjiwe: a South African comedian whose deadpan delivery, sharp observations and wicked sense of humour have entertained audiences across five continents. Following her critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe run of The Mandela Effect, the international festival headliner brings The Lazy Hard Worker to Big Belly. Winner of The Comedy Store’s King Gong and Up the Creek’s The Black Out, Thenjiwe combines global experience with an unmistakably personal voice. With six comedy specials, appearances in films available on Netflix and two South African sitcoms that she wrote, produced and starred in, she brings a wealth of storytelling talent to the stage. Her UK appearances include The Comedy Store, Big Belly, Top Secret Comedy Club and Leicester Square Theatre. Expect clever punchlines, outrageous true stories and the straight-faced delivery of a woman who knows exactly what she’s getting away with. In The Lazy Hard Worker, she turns her attention to an extraordinary CV: over 40 jobs, from lawyer to funeral crier to au pair. Add motherhood, cultural confusion and life between Durban and the UK, and there’s plenty she needs to explain. “Full of interest, intrigue and razor-sharp humour” ★★★★ Lisa in the Theatre, reviewing The Mandela Effect “One of Mzansi’s best-loved comedians” — Sowetan Bring your friends and colleagues.
