Taking Space

Taking Space returns with the Nike After Dark Tour, in support of theCOLAB’s campaign to SAVE THE ARTIST’S GARDEN at Somerset House. Women should be able to move through the city freely, confidently and without fear. But for many women, running in public space comes with layers of fear, location sharing, safety tactics, changed routes, restricted training windows and a heightened awareness of visibility. 19% of women runners report discomfort from unsolicited attention, 43% frequently encounter unwanted comments and sexist remarks, and 54% worry about assault while running (Runner's World). In response, Taking Space acts to make space for women through collective running and reclamation of space in the city in collaboration with the Nike After Dark Tour. For this edition, we are supporting the COLAB and their campaign to Save the Artist’s Garden - the world's only public sculpture garden dedicated to the work of women artists is under threat of closure. All ticket proceeds will go towards this important campaign. We suggest a donation of £10 but please donate what feels comfortable to you. We invite all those who identify as women to join us for a woman-led social 5km run and short panel discussion at Somerset House.
