Cupping Club | Building resilience in a chaotic coffee world

A cupping built to reflect on what it actually take to build a coffee supply chain that withstands climate, price and market volatility. In our next Cupping Club, we'll look at the different pillars of resilience in the supply chain: environmental sustainability, long-term relationships, commercial viability, quality and availability — from both the producing and consuming sides of the trade, and explore how different ways of buying coffee change the balance between them. Danny Davies, our Commercial Director, will report back from his trips to Brazil in 2024 and 2026, including time spent at Daterra and other farms and with producer Bruno de Souza, to look at what climate and market volatility actually mean on the ground, how producers are responding, and how we as a roaster respond in turn. We'll use the story of the Baron — a coffee that a drought and an availability problem forced us to completely rethink — as a real example of turning a sourcing problem into something new, without losing quality or impact along the way.
