Explore how attention, memory and emotion shape what we notice, remember and choose — and when influence becomes manipulation. Why do certain sounds, colours, phrases and experiences stay with us while others disappear almost immediately? Drawing on psychology, behavioural research, data intelligence and her experience working with global brands, Charly Massey explores how attention, memory, emotion and learning shape what we notice, remember and choose. Using examples from language, design, eye-tracking, sensory cues and branding, the talk will look at how organisations use these insights to build familiarity, influence preferences and guide decisions. The session will also consider where helpful design ends and manipulation begins, and how becoming more aware of these cues may help us make more intentional choices. Event Schedule Please arrive by 19:15 to check in and get settled before the talk begins, doors will close at this time so we can start the talk promptly at 19:30. 19:00 – 19:30 Arrival & Warm-Up Activity 19:30 – 20:15 Talk 20:15 – 20:30 Q&A 20:30 – 21:00 Optional Networking You'll Discover • How attention, emotion and memory influence what you notice and remember • The subtle ways language, design and sensory cues can shape your preferences and decisions • What eye-tracking and behavioural research can reveal about where your attention actually goes • How recognising these influences may help you make more intentional choices About the Speaker A specialist in informatics and brand communications, Charly Massey is a human-first, sceptical technology enthusiast who makes complex, hidden but incredibly useful information accessible.
