Organised by Gawthorpe Textiles Collection and Ruth Clifford, Liverpool John Moores University. Gujarat in Western India is home to a diverse range of crafts communities shaped by centuries of migration and international trade. Textile crafts continue to provide a significant form of livelihood, their designs express the identity of the maker and the wearer, and skills are passed down from generation to generation. We will be joined by three textile artisans from the region, ajrakh master Sufiyan Khatri, matai ni pachedi (Mother Goddess) painter Kirit Chitara and Abdullah Khatri a bandhani (tie- dye) artisan. https://www.instagram.com/sufiyankhatri/ https://www.instagram.com/kirit_chitara Following their visit to the Gawthorpe stores to view and advise on some of its hand-printed and naturally dyed textiles, the artisans will share their craft stories through presentations, film and demonstration of the craft process. There will also be opportunity to purchase pieces from the artisans. The tickets are limited to 25 and by a donation to the collection, to keep it accessible please pay what you can afford and thank you for supporting the charity. Supported by Arts Council England unlocking collections fund. On the Day Please make sure to arrive between 5.45pm and 6.00pm am for a prompt 6pm start.
