Full description from organizerShow less
Inspired by the past looking to the future, with University of Manchester, ecologist Penny Anderson and Friends of Whitfield Green Spaces. A time travelling journey through the ecological and cultural history of the Peak District, using this to open up a discussion about how the landscape could look in the future, particularly under a changing climate. Building on from our Why Not Scotland? film showing in August, this event is a collaboration with Nature Recovery and Rewilding academics at the University of Manchester and prominent local ecologist Penny Anderson. We will tell the story of the Peak District’s past, drawing on the deep ecological and cultural history of the area painting a picture of what the landscape would have been like at various points in time. Looking forward, there will be a chance for attendees to reflect on the High Peak's past to look forward to discuss what a future, rewilded landscape might encompass. Students from the MSc Nature Recovery, Restoration and Rewilding course at University of Manchester will be present to support discussions. Tickets are on a donation basis - to help pay for room hire at Partington Theatre and support the work of the groups involved. The bar will be open for the event.
