About this event
A free five day workshop help grandparents understand and support their autistic or ADHD grandchild. Overview Grandparenting Differently: Supporting your autistic or ADHD grandchild is a five day free online workshop designed to help grandparents better understand autism and ADHD, strengthen family relationships and feel more confident in supporting their grandchild. The programme provides a welcoming and supportive space to learn about autism and ADHD, explore common challenges and successes, and connect with other grandparents who share similar experiences. Through a combination of expert guidance, practical strategies and open discussion, you'll gain greater insight into how autistic and ADHD children experience the world and how they can provide meaningful support. What we'll cover Monday 16 November | 1:00pm–2:15pm Understanding autism and ADHD Explore what autism and ADHD are, challenge common myths and misconceptions, and develop a clearer understanding of how they can shape a child’s experiences, strengths and needs. Tuesday 17 November | 1:00pm–2:15pm Seeing the world through their eyes Explore how autistic and ADHD children may experience the world, including sensory differences, social situations and everyday challenges that may not always be obvious to others. Wednesday 18 November | 1:00pm–2:15pm Communication without conflict Explore practical ways to support positive communication, reduce misunderstandings and strengthen your connection with your grandchild, while navigating different approaches across the wider family. Thursday 19 November | 1:00pm–2:15pm Supporting emotional regulation Explore why emotions can sometimes become overwhelming and learn practical ways to respond calmly and supportively, helping your grandchild feel safe, understood and supported. Friday 20 November | 12:30pm–2:30pm Celebrating strengths and connections In this extended final session, we’ll explore how to recognise and celebrate your grandchild’s strengths, interests and abilities, while helping to build their confidence and sense of self. We’ll also consider how everything you’ve learned can deepen your connection with your grandchild and support positive relationships across the wider family. Bringing it all together We’ll recap the key themes from the five sessions, reflect on what you’ve learned and share the practical ideas and strategies you’d like to take forward. We’ll end the programme on a positive note by celebrating what you’ve achieved and recognising the important role grandparents can play in supporting their grandchildren and wider families.
