He has worked extensively with English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Berwick Festival Opera, Edinburgh International Festival, and many other companies. He made his Portuguese debut in 2017 in the Musica Na Fabrica Festival in Lisbon in operas by Stephen Oliver and Zad Moultaka directed by Max Hoehn and his Swiss debut in 2018 as the Spectre in Dvorak’s The Spectre’s Bride in Zürich. Austin is an extremely busy oratorio and concert performer and has appeared in France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and throughout the UK. He is on the professorial staff at Trinity Laban Conservatoire where he teaches singing, coaches chamber music, directs performances and leads performance tutorials as well as advising on diversifying repertoire. How did I get here? Having taken the ABRSM route as a teen, She then had a break from “serious” music whilst at uni studying Chinese at Durham and then raising her kids. She did a PGCE and taught in primary schools in the NE of England. Her piano teaching began alongside her classroom teaching career, when she started offering lessons privately. Over time, this grew organically, and she soon realised that this was where her passion lay. She is a dedicated piano teacher to over 50 students in schools in the North East of England. Her teaching philosophy is holistic and student-centred. She believes in nurturing confident, well-rounded musicians by supporting both their technical development and psychological resilience. Specialising in the management of performance anxiety means that She can give her students lifelong tools for resilience and self-belief. Her students have reached the regional and national finals in the EPTA piano competition, performing in Birmingham, Manchester and London.
