Dark Skies Festival 2026 Launch Event

Discover the darker side of our coast through stargazing, mythology, nature and more! Join us for the launch of our annual Dark Skies Festival at Sheringham Community Centre. Every year, Norfolk Coast Protected Landscape host the Dark Skies Festival – a series of free events from October to March inviting you to experience the night skies of our coast like never before. Immerse yourself in traditional coastal culture, discover the wildlife that comes out after dark, learn about the impacts of light pollution on our coast and find out how we can all play a part in protecting our dark skies. In Sheringham, we have a stellar line up! Neil Philipson from Outsideology will share his Secrets of the Universe and local author Hugh Lupton will captivate us with Greek Myths of the constellations. You will also find out more about the effects of light pollution from our team and, weather permitting, there will be an opportunity to take part in some stargazing, and to delve into the world of nocturnal insects with the Butterfly Conservation Trust! The evening will also feature a performance by pianist Anthony Shiels. Please arrive from 18:00 for hot drinks and cake, the event will start at 18:30. • The event will end by approximately 21:00. • Free parking is available on site with toilet facilities available in the hall. • Please bring appropriate warm clothing and footwear for varied weather conditions.
