Farming Roadmap 2050 - Future of Agri Environment Schemes

On June 24th 2026, the government released it's 25-year plan for the future of farming in England. This document was designed to give farmers greater certainty and clarity about the direction of government policy, and where farmers should look to invest monies and efforts. The government's vision for English farming is to be food producing and commercially viable, while becoming more environmentally sustainable for the changes that climate changes brings. The plan is built around four overarching priorities: Profitability, Productivity, Sustainability, and Resilience. Across this series of farm visits and farm walks, we will visit farms who are demonstrating one or multiple aspects of this plan. Coinciding with the opening of SFI Window 2, in this walk we will explore the future of agri-environment schemes and how farms can best utilise this important funding stream for the benefit of the farming business, and nature. Our Host - Hall Farm Farmed by the Mitchell family, Hall Farm, Woodbastwick, is a mixed farm that operates arable, cattle, and a modern chicken laying unit topped with solar panels. The farm prides itself in fitting into the Broads National Park, growing nutritious food alongside creating and maintaining habitat for the diverse and rare species that inhabit the Broads. The farm has a long history of being in agri-environment schemes, including ELS/HLS, SFI, Mid Tier, and currently looking into the new Higher Tier options on grazing marshes. ..
