Benny-hur

The epic movie re-imagined by Rick O'shay. Based very loosely on the 1959 Epic movie, Ben-Hur, starring Charlton Heston, this production of Benny Hur is a festive romp through the backdrop of Ancient Rome and Jerusalem. It is a tribute to the ‘Golden Age of TV Comedy’, with nods to The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Carry On Cleo, Benny Hill, and, of course, Up Pompeii. The Regiment of Rascals first presented this show at The Green Taverners Arena to a rapturous reception in February 2026 and due to popular demand, have revisited it and now proudly present it as the ‘Perfect Old School Christmas Entertainment.’ Expect even more schoolboy humour and a seemingly endless series of double entendres and risqué gags, with actors constantly breaking the fourth wall - a dramatic device harking back to classical theatre. Benny Hur is two hours of titters in togas, and a bumper feast of old jokes that feels like a 1970s seaside postcard brought to life—stuffed with suggestive puns, cheeky glances and broad slapstick innuendos the like of which graced our TV screens back in the day. Gasp at the sea Battle of Rectium and gaze in awe at the legendary chariot race at the Colosseum, both of which are (almost) faithfully recreated. Suggested age 16+
