Climate, Cake & Conversation - Hospitality as a Tool for Nature Recovery

The Wray Valley story: 10-acre Dartmoor smallholding to Green Tourism Gold award winning retreat. Talk followed by discussion over coffee. Transition Tavistock and Tavistock Library invite you to a talk by Michelle, co-owner of Wray Valley campsite / B&B near Moretonhampstead. The presentation focuses on regenerative, (not just "sustainable") tourism—using visitor income to actively fund restoration of the landscape. Michelle will share the highs and lows of balancing rural hospitality with sensitive, low-impact stewardship, including securing 6 acres of the site via official Devon County Wildlife Site status to safeguard a rare fragment of ancient temperate rainforest. Michelle, who has a professional background in Environmental Sustainability, will also cover the practicalities of green infrastructure (eg solar arrays and retrofitting), navigating the reality that most rural guests arrive by car, and visitor education through a low-tech, zero-paper Sustainability Activity Trail. Doors open 7pm - a chance for informal chat with others attending before the talk starts at 7.30pm. It will be followed conversation about the issues raised over light refreshments. The event will end by 9pm. Admission is free, but donations to support future events on climate and nature themes are welcome. Young people (under 18) are welcome to attend, but must come with an adult. Note: No dogs allowed except registered assistance dogs.
