Tongue Tied: The Chichester Poetry Slam

About Jackson Jackson Davies has been performing spoken word for over ten years, veering from humorous honest observations about his marriage, to rhyming rants about the state of the nation. Mainly due to not saying no to anything, he's supported Luke Wright on the Portsmouth leg of his UK tour, was a key member of HolmesFest, produced a show and zine called Chaos and is a regular face at open mic nights around the South. Somewhere in there, he also stepped outside his comfort zone to win his first rap battle with Word of Mouth. His style is somewhere between hardcore punk, UK hip hop and celtic folk but delivered by a middle class dad of three who thinks he's cooler than he actually is (laudatory). Jackson is the Portsmouth Poet Laureate 2026-2028. About Olivia Olivia is a writer of fiction, poetry, scripts and (many) to-do lists. Optimism and the pursuit of joy threads through all her creations. She recently debuted her second solo show, Just To Say!, an uplifting work of poetic storytelling that blends her passion for language with a poignant purpose. New on the spoken word scene, Olivia has become a regular slammer at Tongue Tied, and performed at Victorious Festival 2026 with Pompey Poetry Party. Our slam is a high-energy, crowd-powered celebration of words, rhythm, and raw emotion. Poets take to the stage to share original pieces of work and the audience gets to cheer, snap, and even help judge! Whether you're performing or just soaking it all in, our slam is all about connection, creativity, and community. Come experience poetry like you’ve never heard it before! At Tongue Tied we have monthly heats where up to 10 poets share their poetry in an inclusive welcoming environment. One winner voted by audience members will be crowned on the night and will be offered a 15 minute feature set at our next months slam. They will also gain a place in our Grand Slam Final happening in May/June 2027 (Date TBC) where they will battle it out for a cash prize of £100 for the winner and the coveted Tongue Tied Trophy. For Slammers (Performers): Buy a Performer Ticket before they're gone! If they're sold out and you want to perform, you can buy an audience ticket and sign up to the slam reserve list on the night as sometimes a poet gets lost along the way! The rules of the slam: Bring 1 piece of original work up to 3 minutes long (no props and no music). All styles and themes are encouraged and you are welcome to read from paper or your preferred electronic device. For Audience: Simply buy an audience ticket sit back, relax and support our wonderful poets on the night, you might even get a chance to be on the slam judge panel!
