“Modern Garden Design – Innovation or Repetition" by Dr Alison Moller

Lecture by Dr. Alison Moller – “Modern Garden Design – Innovation or Repetition?’’ This talk traces some of the influences that have shaped Modern Gardens and discusses the dilemmas designers face in trying to offer new ideas. Examples mostly, but not exclusively, from Britain illustrate how modern designers have risen to these challenges. The work of well-known designers such as Piet Oudolf and Tom Stuart Smith is illustrated, but several lesser-known gardens are featured in the hope that members will be inspired to plan a visit! Alison has previously given a number of lectures to Essex Gardens Trust on garden history, demonstrating her breadth of knowledge on many aspects of gardening and horticulture including broader historical contexts, engineering, geology, and the arts. She has worked as a teacher and head teacher. She is an accredited member of the Association of Wine Educators and has lectured widely on wine and its history.
