Southend CineScene Presents : In The Mood For Love

In 1960s Hong Kong, two neighbours discover their spouses are having an affair, forging a tender bond shaped by longing and missed chances. Step into the evocative world of 1960s Hong Kong with Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, a visually stunning story of love, longing and restraint. When journalist Chow Mo-wan and secretary Su Li-zhen move into neighbouring apartments, they gradually realise that their spouses are having an affair with each other. As they spend more time together, an unexpected intimacy develops between them. Yet, rather than simply following the path their partners have taken, they find themselves caught between desire, dignity and the boundaries they have set for themselves. Set against the richly textured streets and interiors of 1960s Hong Kong, the film is renowned for its exquisite cinematography, elegant costumes and unforgettable music. From narrow stairways and noodle-shop encounters to slow, lingering glances, Wong Kar-wai transforms everyday moments into something intensely romantic and atmospheric. Starring Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, In the Mood for Love is a masterclass in understated emotion — a film where what remains unspoken can be every bit as powerful as what is said. Join us for an evening of sumptuous visuals, unforgettable style and one of cinema’s most celebrated explorations of love, desire and missed opportunity.
