Sapphic Cinema – 'Shakedown' + Live Performance

Abi Asisa and Theatreship present a night of Sapphic Cinema – a screening of 'Shakedown' paired with a live performance. Sapphic Cinema is an event dedicated to highlighting FLINTA (femme, lesbian, intersex, nonbinary, trans, asexual) stories within queer cinema. This screening will be paired with a live performance, to be announced soon. Shakedown (2018) Director: Leilah Weinraub Age Rating: 18 Charting the eight-year run of Shakedown, a peripatetic black lesbian strip club in Los Angeles, director Leilah Weinraub attempts “to portray the before and after of a utopic moment.” Weinraub presents a world unto itself, shaped by the desires and pleasures of its community. Shot with the tenderness of a home movie, Shakedown captures the propulsive, dreamlike atmosphere of the club and achieves a stunning intimacy with its subjects. ________________ The venue opens at 2pm, and there's always a lovely atmosphere in the bar before an event, so you're welcome to come along early to enjoy the space with us. We recommend arriving for 6pm at the latest to settle in, get your popcorn, and find your seat. Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If the regular ticket price is beyond what you feel able to afford for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] and we will do everything we can to help, no questions asked. Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space. We have dedicated staff on hand to help with stairs, and an onsite wheelchair once you’re inside the venue. If you have any access needs, please do e-mail us at [email protected].
