Overview Low Floor, High Ceiling (LFHC) tasks are increasingly recognised as an effective way of ensuring that all learners can access rich mathematical learning while still experiencing appropriate challenge and stretch. Rooted in research on mathematical thinking, problem solving, metacognition and inclusive pedagogy, LFHC approaches provide accessible starting points whilst enabling learners to explore increasingly sophisticated mathematical ideas.This professional learning session explores the research and rationale underpinning LFHC approaches and examines how high-quality tasks can promote reasoning, discussion, resilience and deep conceptual understanding. Participants will explore the role of NRICH resources in supporting rich mathematical learning and consider how effective lesson structures can help teachers facilitate exploration, discussion and mathematical sense-making in the classroom.Through practical examples and collaborative activities, participants will analyse different types of mathematical problems, evaluate their suitability for LFHC learning, and explore how artificial intelligence can support the design and adaptation of tasks that provide meaningful challenge for all learners.
