Full description from organizer

3 days F2F training on anti-oppressive practice within domestic abuse services in Cornwall The Olive Project is delighted to offer 3 days of fully funded training on anti-oppressive practice within domestic abuse services in Cornwall. This training is offered Face to Face at Pydar House Truro. PLEASE NOTE: Delegates are expected to attend all three training dates taking place on: • Wednesday 16th September 10am - 4pm • Tuesday 13th October 10am - 4pm • Wednesday 18th November 10am - 4pm Racism and oppression negatively impacts the lived experiences of black and minoritised victims and survivors affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. Research and statistics illustrate that BMVS are more likely to stay in abusive relationships/situations longer, are more at risk of domestic homicide and more likely to have multiple perpetrators. Concurrently BMVS are less likely to be referred for support by professionals, less likely to have their case sent to CPS, less likely to be referred to MARAC and more likely to face discriminatory responses from professionals. With past and current events highlighting the ever present threat of racism and xenophobia, there is a local need to develop professional practice at a frontline and managerial level to ensure high risk victims from black and minoritised backgrounds do not face additional barriers and challenges, and that they receive support and services that address there specific needs. This learning is intended to develop professional practice in order to streamline anti-racist and culturally competent practice within domestic abuse organisations, voluntary organisations and public sector bodies around Cornwall. The learning will include: • Overview of Domestic Abuse Act 2021 – its impact for BMVS. • Racial trauma and trauma informed practice • History of global racism misogynoir and intersectionality. • Immigration and Domestic Abuse • Introduction to So-called Honor Based Abuse, Forced Marriage, and Female Genital Mutilation • Supporting BMVS with the NRPF condition attached to their immigration status. • Embedding Anti - Oppressive Practice In order to ensure participants gain the most from the training, we ask that each participants commits to attending all 3 days of the training. The dates for the training are as follows: • Wednesday 16th September. • Tuesday 13th October. • Wednesday 18th November. Each training day will be held at: Pydar Safe and Well Training Room Pydar House Pydar Street, Truro TR1 1XU Each day will run from 10am – 4pm. We will be providing teas and coffee.
