Precious Gems Film Club: The Holdovers

A delightful festive comedy-drama set in a 1970s New England boarding school Set against the drafty, snow-dusted backdrop of a New England boarding school in 1970, The Holdovers throws together a cantankerous, pipe-smoking classics teacher, a fractured and rebellious student abandoned for the holidays, and a grieving head cook mourning her son lost to war. What starts as a friction-filled quarantine of lonely souls slowly reveals a brilliant, unpolished warmth. Over heavy pours of whiskey, burnt dinners, and an impromptu road trip, these three misfits grind down each other’s sharpest, most defensive edges.
