The Commonwealth War Graves Commission: A Talk on History & Local Stories

The CWGC comes to Appleton-le-Moors to share its history, its work today and stories behind our local war graves. Open event, all welcome! Join us for an interesting and informative talk from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), exploring the history of the organisation and its work around the world today. Find out how the Commission began, how its work developed through the First and Second World Wars, and how it continues to care for and preserve war graves and memorials. The presentation will also bring the subject closer to home, exploring war graves in our local area and sharing the stories of some of those commemorated. The event will begin at 7:15pm at the Village Hall in Appleton-le-Moors. After the presentation, there will be tea, coffee and nibbles*, with an opportunity to chat and meet others. This is an open event, and everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a WI member or not, come along and join us for an interesting and thought-provoking evening. *Tea and coffee are provided. Attendees tend to bring nibbles to share [cake, biscuits, crisps, etc] but you are under no obligation to do so!
