Elves Gone Turbo! The Ultimate Engineering Challenge

Santa's elves are going turbo this Christmas! Design your own racing car using CAD and bring it to life with laser cutting. The elves have gone rogue… and they're building racing cars! 🏎️🎄 Forget traditional sleighs and slow-moving reindeer — Santa's workshop has officially entered the racing business! This Christmas, the elves are recruiting a new team of young engineers to help them design, build and race the fastest delivery vehicles the North Pole has ever seen. In this action-packed 3-hour workshop at Makerbay, you'll step into the shoes of an elf engineer and take on the ultimate festive fabrication challenge! Starting with a reference CAD design, you'll create your very own racing car chassis, experimenting with different shapes, structures and designs to maximise speed and performance. Next, bring your design to life using laser-cutting technology, then assemble your wooden components into a fully functioning, rubber-band-powered racing machine. Give your creation a festive twist! Will you build a streamlined sleigh, a reindeer-inspired racer or a turbocharged present delivery vehicle? Once your car is ready, it's time for the ultimate showdown — the North Pole Grand Prix! Test your engineering skills, fine-tune your racer and compete against fellow makers to see whose creation can cross the finish line first. No motors. No batteries. Just clever engineering and Christmas creativity! What You'll Experience • Design Like an Elf Engineer: Learn the basics of CAD and create your own custom racing car chassis. • Laser-Cut Your Creation: Turn your digital design into real wooden components using laser-cutting technology. • Build Your Turbo Racer: Assemble a working rubber-band-powered car using wooden parts, wheels, axles and mechanical components. • Add Some Christmas Magic: Personalise your creation with festive designs and decorations. • Test & Tinker: Discover how friction, weight distribution and mechanical design affect racing performance. • Compete in the North Pole Grand Prix: Put your racer to the test in exciting speed and distance challenges. • Take Your Creation Home: Bring home your very own custom-engineered Christmas racing car! Workshop Details Age Group: 12 years and above Duration: 3 hours Skill Level: Beginners welcome — no prior experience required Skills: CAD Design, Laser Cutting, Woodworking & Mechanical Assembly 🎅 Think you've got what it takes to out-engineer Santa's elves? Join the workshop, fire up your creativity and get ready to go TURBO this Christmas!
