Burial - Untrue (2007) Vinyl album listening party

A ghostly classic of dubstep and electronic music in focus with a live vinyl album playback and a discussion for Halloween week. Nialler9 and The Big Romance present Listen Closely, a monthly listening party focusing on one album we love, on the last Wednesday of every month. This month: Burial – Untrue (2007) Burial's second album is the sound of London after dark: night buses, rain on windows, the faded memory of a recent rave. Made by an anonymous South London producer using basic audio-editing software rather than a traditional sequencer, it took the skipping rhythms of UK garage and 2-step and slowed them into something ghostly and heartbroken. Pitched and chopped vocal samples float through crackle and static like half-remembered love songs. Released on Hyperdub and shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, it's one of the most influential electronic and dubstep records of the century; Join Nialler9 and guest Dave Balfe (For Those I Love) for a discussion about this modern classic record and a playback of the album on vinyl through The Big Romance’s high-quality Toby Hatchett soundsystem. We also chat about the album’s context, craft, production, how it sits in the UK and dubstep canon and Burial's discography, and why the album matters for a live Nialler9 Podcast episode. Tickets are limited to 45 for this intimate event. Become a paid member of the Nialler9 Patreon to get half priced tickets. Please note - Doors at the later time of 8:00pm for this one. Arrive early for seats.
