Four evenings. Ancient Japanese stitches. One hand-stitched linen tote bag — ready for summer. 4-Week Sashiko Embroidery CourseMake Your Own Tote Bag Sundays, 18 October – 8 November 2026 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Some things are better made slowly. Over four Sunday mornings, you’ll step away from screens, noise and rushing, and spend a few quiet hours learning Sashiko — the Japanese art of decorative hand stitching. Using simple running stitches and traditional geometric patterns, you’ll gradually transform a plain tote bag into something entirely your own. No experience is needed. Just come as you are. The Experience Each week, we’ll build on the last. You’ll learn how to prepare your fabric, transfer a Sashiko pattern, create even stitches and slowly develop your design across your tote bag. There is no pressure to be perfect. The beauty of Sashiko is in repetition — one stitch, then another, until something beautiful begins to appear. Over Four Sundays 18 October — Begin Discover Sashiko, choose your pattern and learn the foundations of the running stitch. 25 October — Build Continue your design, settle into the rhythm of stitching and begin seeing your tote take shape. 1 November — Refine Work deeper into your pattern, improve your technique and add the details that make the piece yours. 8 November — Finish Complete your embroidery and leave with a handmade Sashiko tote bag created entirely by you. What’s Included ✦ Four 2-hour guided sessions ✦ Your tote bag ✦ Sashiko thread and materials ✦ Patterns and tools to use during the course ✦ Step-by-step guidance throughout ✦ A relaxed space to create, slow down and meet others This course is designed for complete beginners. You don’t need to be creative. You don’t need to know how to sew. You only need two hours, a needle, and somewhere to begin. Four Sundays. One tote bag. Hundreds of tiny stitches. And something you’ll keep long after the course is over.Frequently Asked Questions Do I need any embroidery experience? Not at all. This course is designed for complete beginners. We’ll start with the basics and guide you step by step throughout the four weeks. What exactly will I make? You’ll create your own Sashiko embroidered tote bag using traditional Japanese-inspired patterns and hand-stitching techniques. Do I need to bring anything? No. Everything you need for the course will be provided, including your tote bag, thread, needles, patterns and materials. Are all materials included in the ticket price? Yes. All materials needed to complete your tote bag are included. Can I take my project home between sessions? Yes. Your tote bag is yours from the beginning, so you can continue stitching at home if you would like to. What if I don’t finish my tote bag during the four weeks? That is completely fine. Sashiko is a slow craft, and everyone works at a different pace. You’ll leave with the skills and materials you need to continue your project at home. Do I have to attend all four sessions? We strongly recommend attending all four sessions, as each week builds on the previous one. This will also give you the best chance to complete your tote bag and enjoy the full experience. What happens if I miss one week? If you miss a session, we’ll do our best to help you catch up during the next class. Unfortunately, missed sessions cannot normally be transferred or refunded. Can I choose my own Sashiko pattern? You’ll be able to choose from a selection of patterns suitable for the project and your experience level. Is Sashiko difficult? Not at all. One of the beautiful things about Sashiko is its simplicity. It uses a basic running stitch, repeated slowly to create intricate geometric designs. What age is the course suitable for? The course is primarily designed for adults. If you would like to attend with someone younger, please contact us before booking. Can I come alone? Absolutely. Many people come to our workshops alone. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, and it is a lovely way to meet new people while doing something creative. Can I come with a friend? Of course. You are very welcome to book together. Is this a very social class or more of a quiet workshop? A little of both. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, with plenty of time to chat, meet people and enjoy the process without feeling rushed. What if I’m not creative? You do not need to be. Sashiko is very structured and repetitive, which makes it especially accessible for beginners. You will be guided through every step. What should I wear? Anything you feel comfortable in. There is no special dress code. Will there be food or drinks? Please check the individual event listing for what is included at the venue. You are also welcome to bring water with you. Is the venue accessible? Please contact us before booking if you have any accessibility requirements, and we’ll be happy to confirm the venue details with you. Can I get a refund if I change my mind? Please check the cancellation policy on your booking page before purchasing. As this is a four-week course with materials prepared in advance, places are limited and late cancellations may not be refundable. Can I transfer my place to someone else? If you can no longer attend, please contact us as early as possible and we’ll let you know whether your place can be transferred. Can I book only one session instead of the full course? This experience is designed as a complete four-week course, so tickets are sold for the full programme rather than individual sessions. How many people will be in the class? We keep our courses intentionally small so everyone can receive guidance and the experience remains relaxed and personal. Will I learn enough to continue Sashiko after the course? Yes. By the end of the four weeks, you should feel comfortable with the basic Sashiko technique, preparing patterns and continuing your own projects independently. Is this a sewing course? Not exactly. The focus is on Sashiko hand embroidery rather than machine sewing. Your main project will be decorating your tote bag through hand stitching. Is this suitable if I already know how to embroider? Yes. If you already have some embroidery experience, you can use the course to explore Sashiko specifically and work on a more detailed pattern. What are the dates? The course runs over four consecutive Sundays: Sunday 18 October 2026 Sunday 25 October 2026 Sunday 1 November 2026 Sunday 8 November 2026 What time is the course? Each session runs from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. How long is each session? Each session is approximately two hours. Where is the course taking place? The exact venue details can be added to your event page once confirmed. I still have a question — how can I contact you? You can message Edo Atelier Dublin directly on Instagram and we’ll be happy to help.
