A two-day symposium on Being and Time occurs in Maynooth, Ireland.

Full description from organizer

A two-day symposium, Friday 30 April - Saturday 1 May 2027, in Maynooth, Ireland Few philosophical works of the twentieth century have had so lasting an impact as Martin Heidegger's Being and Time. Published in 1927, it became an immediate sensation among philosophers and theologians alike. By raising anew the question of the meaning of being and rejecting atemporal approaches to being and existence, the book marked a theological 'parting of the ways'. From then on, no theologian wishing to engage with continental philosophy could avoid the questions Heidegger raised. The work of figures ranging from Bultmann and Rahner to Balthasar, Marion and Caputo attests to this. A century after Being and Time, this symposium returns to the work and its influence on subsequent theology. Its aim, however, goes beyond reception history. It asks whether Heidegger remains, to this day, an unavoidable source and interlocutor for theologians engaging with the continental tradition. Plenary Speakers: Stefano Bancalari, La Sapienza Eileen Brennan, Dublin City University Emmanuel Cattin, Sorbonne Université Michael A. Conway, St Patrick’s Pontifical University Ryan Coyne, University of Chicago (ITQ Lecture) Joshua Furnal, St Patrick’s Pontifical University Gaven Kerr, St Patrick’s Pontifical University George Pattison, University of Glasgow Joe Rivera, Dublin City University Carl Scerri, St Patrick’s Pontifical University Holger Zaborowski, University of Erfurt Call for Papers: Established scholars, early-career researchers and postgraduate students are invited to submit proposals for 30-minute papers by 15 December 2026.
