Writing for Film and TV: 2 day workshop

Explore story structure, concept development, and the key principles of writing for film and television. Prose To Pictures is a course for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown-based novelists, short story writers and playwrights who would like to make the move into writing for film and TV. Please note participants must be able to attend both days – Saturday 10 October and Saturday 14 November. The workshop will be comprehensive and medium-specific. It will cover all aspects of structure, concept, and story development for film and TV. This will help writers better understand the elementary tenets of screenwriting, and how screenwriting compares to and differs from other types of writing. It will also delve into key elements of the film industry, including working in the sector, partnering with producers and getting funding for your projects. By the end of the course, participants will have the competence and confidence to create a film or TV story, write the screenplay and other materials, and approach producers, script-editors and funding bodies. This course is facilitated by Paul FitzSimons, a writer and producer with 15 years’ experience writing film and TV drama stories and scripts. Paul runs the production company Prelude Content. The course will take place over two full days– Saturday 10 October and Saturday 14 November 2026. There are a limited number of places available and booking is essential. The course is subsidised by dlr Arts Office and Economic Development Unit as part of our supports for artists, creatives and small businesses.
