Ár n-Áit: The Camera and Community in the Built Environment

Street photography and architecture have an intrinsic relationship with one another; the former being the practice of documenting how people interact with the latter. Observing the built environment through a lens is an effective way to build a closer connection to the urban landscape - to make it feel more like it belongs to you, and that you belong to it. In this talk, Galway street photographer Ciarán MacChoncarraige explores the relationship between the camera and architecture, and how the simple practice of walking the streets and taking photographs can make you feel closer to your community. This will be followed by a 1hr photo walk in Galway City, with any device that can capture an image encouraged - mobile phones included.
