Grow Your Own Woodland: "Forest in a Box" Workshop

A hands-on day directly helping to restore our native woodlands Ever wanted to plant a native woodland but didn't know where to start? Join expert Jason McCormac with The Woodland League for a hands-on, practical day dedicated to restoring our native ecosystem. Learn the secrets of forest ecology and discover how different plant species work together in perfect harmony. Using a specially built box designed to replicate the forest floor, you will learn exactly how to: • Collect native tree seeds from the local area. • Stratify and prepare seeds for winter. • Sow and grow healthy, vibrant saplings from scratch. The Best Part? Your efforts on the day will directly help the community. Up to 400 locally produced saplings from this course will be made available for local reforestation and afforestation projects next year! Workshop Location Information Tuamgraney Community Woodland is a small woods located just outside of Tuamgraney village in east Clare. There is a short walking trail though the woods and a few open spaces for workshops to take place. Tarps will be put up to provide basic shelter, but there are no additional facilities in the woods. Please bear this in mind and bring weather appropriate clothing, drinking water, and any other personal comforts you may require throughout the day. There will be a lunch break in the middle of the day, where you can walk to Nuala's Restaurant or the Woollen Mills café in Tuamgraney village, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. This will be time if you need it to fill up water, and use the toilet facilities in the village. Note: Parking is located in Tuamgraney village, not where the pin on the map marks the woodland itself. Please give yourself ample time in the morning to park and walk up in time for the event.
