Maigue Rivers Trust: Louise Crowley's Farm Walk

Stop the Spread of Invasive Species Workshop & Farm Walk The Maigue Rivers Trust is pleased to welcome you to this workshop focused on tackling invasive species in the Maigue catchment. Facilitated by Streamscapes, this workshop is part of the programme “Stop the Spread: Protecting the Maigue River Catchment from Invasive Species” which provides practical guidance on identifying invasive species and reducing their spread across farmland, rivers and rural landscapes. Invasive species are an increasing challenge for agriculture, biodiversity and river health, impacting riverbanks, drainage systems, native habitats and water quality throughout the catchment. This workshop and field walk will focus on: • Identifying invasive species commonly found along rivers, drains and farmland • Understanding the impacts invasive plants can have on grazing land, drainage and biodiversity • Practical biosecurity measures for machinery, livestock movement and land management • The “Clean, Check, Dry” approach for reducing the spread of invasive species • Community-based approaches to protecting local waterways and rural environments This initiative is supported by Nature Network Ireland and funded through Government of Ireland rural and community development initiatives including Project Ireland 2040 and Our Rural Future, in partnership with Limerick City and County Council, LCDC, and West Limerick Resources.
