Rehearsed reading: Sławomir Mrożek, Emigranci

A rehearsed reading of Mrożek’s Emigrants, a darkly witty exploration of migration, identity, alienation and the search for freedom. Bottom Dog Theatre Company in a dynamic collaboration with the 19th Polish Arts Festival in Limerick, presents a captivating rehearsed reading of Sławomir Mrożek’s masterpiece, “Emigrants”. Set on a transformative New Year’s Eve in a claustrophobic, windowless basement, this sharp and provocative tragicomedy follows two exiled men—an idealistic intellectual and a practical, hard-working laborer—trapped together in a foreign land. Through fast-paced, witty dialogue and Mrożek's signature dark absurdism, the play explores universal themes of uprootedness, identity, alienation, and the enduring search for personal freedom. Delivered with the immediacy and raw energy unique to Bottom Dog’s acclaimed rehearsed reading format, this performance bridges Polish and Irish cultural spheres to deliver a deeply human, thought-provoking examination of the migrant experience.
