Annual QuakeShake Meeting: How to Monitor Earthquakes from your Home.

Join us for our third annual QuakeShake public meeting in Enniscorthy, Co.Wexford! Please feel free to join from 6:30pm for tea and coffee, meeting from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Members of the community will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in QuakeShake - a unique earthquake citizen science project operated by the Dublin Institute for Advance Studies (DIAS) in co-operation with Geological Survey Ireland. During this event, we will introduce you to the fascinating world of seismology and explain how you can become a QuakeShake citizen seismologist. QuakeShake is the outreach programme of the Irish National Seismic Network (INSN). Since 2023, this citizen-science project has contributed vital earthquake data to enhance the INSN. QuakeShake operates compact Raspberry Shake seismometers in homes, schools, and geoparks around Ireland, capturing both local and global earthquakes. Why host the meeting in Wexford? The South East is Ireland's second most seismically active region after county Donegal. Our goal is to expand the QuakeShake network in the South East to record more local Irish earthquakes. Raspberry Shake seismometers will be raffled to participants interested in hosting them. Please note a MOU will need to be signed on the night. This meeting will cover: • An introduction to QuakeShake and its goals. • How seismometers work and what data the QuakeShake programme has collected since 2023. • Earthquakes in South East Ireland Registration: This event is free to attend, but spaces are limited. Please register to reserve your spot. Location Details: The Riverside Park Hotel & Leisure Club in Co. Wexford offer complimentary parking both outside and underground.
