Drawing on the Blues

Get ready to unleash your creativity at Drawing on the Blues, a wonderful opportunity for social art making in a friendly environment Drawing on the Blues Drawing on the Blues is a social sketching and live music event in the Scout Hall community space in New Ross. Participants will be guided in drawing a portrait from a photograph taken on their mobile phone using pencil and charcoal. Blues and trad band ‘Skin the Deer’ will provide musical entertainment and act as models for the group to draw. Members of New Ross Women’s Shed and residents in the Cedar Lodge IPAS centre will be invited to take part and the community bus will provide transport. The session will begin with an exploration of materials and composition, the use of the mobile phone to make a reference image, and scaling the image to paper. This session intends to introduce people to the pleasure of drawing as a social activity and to provide them with some simple techniques to get more from their sketching. They will be guided by the artist in observing their subject; composing their work and drawing using pencils and charcoal. This is a very social session where people get to spend time getting to know each other and to explore sketching. Artistic support and encouragement will be given at all times so that participants feel able to sketch at their own pace.
