The monetary policy of the ECB within the Eurosystem: general aspects

Lecture 3 of the Central Banking Law Series. The Department of Law of the University of Luxembourg cordially invites you to the lecture “The monetary policy of the ECB within the Eurosystem: general aspects” by Professor Christos V. Gortsos. About the event: The third lecture of Professor Christos V. Gortsos in the Central Banking Law Lecture Series at the University of Luxembourg will be held on Tuesday, 3 November, at 12:00, on the topic: “The monetary policy of the ECB within the Eurosystem: general aspects”. The first part of the lecture will focus on the mechanism for the transmission of monetary policy effects in the course of the conduct of “conventional” monetary policy. This will be followed by the presentation of the “unconventional” monetary policy instruments, which were introduced and applied in periods of very low inflation. Key related judgments of EU Courts will also be briefly discussed. Speaker: Christos Gortsos is Professor of Public Economic Law at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Other positions include: Visiting Professor at the Europa Institut of the University of Zürich and the Europa Institut of the University of Saarland; President of the Academic Board of the European Banking Institute (EBI); Member of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs); Member of the European Parliament’s and of the European Court of Auditors’ expert groups on banking resolution; and member and academic coordinator of the Committee on International Monetary Law of the International Law Association (MOCOMILA). In 2017, he was Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the Law Department of the European University Institute and in 2018 Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College (Oxford University). His main fields of teaching, writing and research are international, EU and public financial law, central banking law, financial regulation and institutional economics.
