Join us for seminar on GST Risks and Controls Series: How to Review Your GST Returns. In collaboration with Jed Tax Consulting Pte Ltd. GST Risks and Controls Series: How to Review Your GST Returns Are you confident that your GST return review process would detect an error before the return is filed? A robust GST return review process is an important part of an organisation’s GST compliance framework. A well-designed review can help identify errors and unusual transactions before a GST return is filed, reducing compliance risks and the need for subsequent corrections. Join us for this highly practical 3.5-hour seminar, where the trainer will share his 50 detective controls that businesses can incorporate into their GST return review process. Drawing on experience from both GST auditing and advising businesses on GST matters, the trainer will focus on the types of GST reporting risks that can arise in practice and, more importantly, how these risks can be identified through practical review procedures and detective controls. Rather than focusing solely on GST rules, the seminar will demonstrate practical review techniques that organisations can apply to their own GST returns, helping them adopt a more systematic and effective approach to GST return reviews. Trainer Profile The seminar is led by a GST specialist with experience as a former IRAS GST auditor and GST tax advisor, bringing practical perspectives from both the regulatory and business advisory sides of GST compliance. Agenda 1. GST Reporting Risks • Key GST reporting risks highlighted under the IRAS Assisted Compliance Assurance Programme (ACAP) • Common areas where GST reporting errors may arise • Practical insights into how GST errors may be identified through a review 2. GST Return Review – Detective Controls Practical review controls covering: • Standard-rated supplies • Zero-rated supplies • Exempt supplies • Taxable purchases and input tax claims • Imports under the Major Exporter Scheme (MES) 3. Putting the Controls into Practice • How to incorporate detective controls into your existing GST return review process • Practical considerations when reviewing GST returns • Using data and reconciliations to identify potential anomalies and errors Learning Outcomes By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to: • Understand the key GST reporting risks that businesses commonly encounter. • Identify practical detective controls that can be incorporated into their GST return review process. • Apply a more systematic approach to reviewing GST returns before submission. • Gain insights into strengthening their organisation’s overall GST compliance framework. Duration: 3.5 hours Speaker Eddie Soh is a Co-Founder and Tax Director at Jed Tax Consulting Pte Ltd and an Accredited Tax Advisor (GST) with the Singapore Chartered Tax Professionals (SCTP). He has more than 25 years of practical GST experience, having worked with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) as a tax auditor and with PwC as a tax advisor. He regularly speaks at public GST workshops and seminars and has authored tax articles featured by SCTP. Eddie has advised businesses on complex and contentious GST matters, including successfully obtaining millions of dollars in GST refunds through an alternative basis of apportionment, increasing a client's input tax recovery rate from the low 20% range to the high 90% range with IRAS' agreement, and successfully obtained IRAS' agreement on alternative documentation to support zero-rating He has also led 43 large multinational companies in achieving ACAP Premium status. Drawing on his experience from both the tax authority and advisory perspectives, Eddie brings a practical and risk-focused approach to reviewing GST returns, helping businesses look beyond the numbers to identify potential errors, technical issues and areas that may attract scrutiny.
