Guided Hike and Stream Tracing in Singapore's Hidden Wild

Join us for an off-trail guided adventure deep into the wilderness! Learn about ecology, history, identify plants, and learn outdoor skills ABOUT THE FOREST The space we will be exploring is a large forest east of Bukit Timah Hill. Once home to a beautiful malay kampong with buildings scattered across the forest since the 1920s, the forest has been home to many tenants, including a now-defunct granite quarry. In 1924, Rifle Range road was constructed straight through the forests as an access road to Bukit Timah Rifle Range (which later became Singapore Gun Club) where Singapore's volunteer forces underwent training. Many Colugos call this forest home as well, and with a keen eye we may spot some. PROGRAMME We will identify and learn about native flora and fauna as we make our way towards the start of the stream. We will then start tracing upstream walking mindfully through the gentle babbling stream, fully engaging our senses and our bodies. It has earned its nickname as The Magic River well - look closely and you might find crystals in the water, and relics of old kampongs. We will then take a break at a beatiful space hidden deep in the forest carved by the stream, where we can experience very special unique natural river features (that we will keep as a surprise, only to be experienced in-person), where we will be learning how to identify and create drinkable water from wild and natural sources. This skill will come in handy especially if you are looking at doing wild camping, multi day treks or mountaineering! After enjoying refreshments by the water, we will continue upstream for a bit before making our way back out to the hiking trail. TERRAIN CHALLENGES While this trip might be beginner friendly, it may be unsuitable for first-time off-trail hikers or people uncomfortable in a forest as they might find it too intense - it is a full, deep nature-immersive adventure, and can be categorized as beginner-intermediate level. The start and the end of the trip will be on a paved trail, however the majority of it will be off trail and in the wild. Expect to wade through ankle to shin deep water for the majority of the trip, barefoot if you feel up to connect at that level. The ground is uneven, with soft sand and rocks as the riverbed and will require mindful movement to keep balance. At parts we will have to move through dense foliage to progress, crawling under and over roots and tree trunks. Limited to 7 pax per guide. Min 4 pax to start the trip.
