Common Grounds #7: Sanctuary of Sound and Whispers

A Ritual of Listening, Whispers, Play, and Communality. A time-off from the busy Dutch Design Week program, this is a place to engage in whispers, gossip, and communal creation: where the act of listening becomes a shared ritual. Set during Dutch Design Week, Sanctuary of Sound and Whispers is an activated listening bar reimagined as a chapel of sound, blending the communal energy of a bar with the intimate, hushed atmosphere of a listening experience. Here, the fatigue of the week dissolves into a ritualistic pause, where friends and strangers connect through shared sound, play, and quiet reflection. The space is sacred yet playful: draped curtains define its perimeter, while benches and floor cushions orient guests toward the Eurorack modular system, a digital altar inviting hands-on sonic experimentation. A fountain spills drinks (a nod to holy water and wine), and a wooden confessional offers moments of intimate exchange. Candles flicker, custom scents of milk, wood, frankincense, and myrrh linger in the air, and smoke crawls across the floor, deepening the sensory immersion. The evening begins with participatory soundscapes, as guests and invited artists shape ambient textures on the Eurorack. As the night unfolds, a live performance, perhaps followed by spoken word, music, or dance, signals a shift into curated vinyl and DJ sets. The music remains soft yet engaging, fostering conversation, movement, and a natural evolution of the space’s energy. 24th of October 2026 17:30 - 01:30 Foundation We Are, Torenallee 22-04, 5617 BD Eindhoven
