The Monk and the Gun (2023)

Film screening, followed by open discussion. A good opportunity to talk about many relevant issues in a relaxed and informal setting. Free. ~ - ~ - ~ Bhutan is a rapidly developing country where modern technologies are becoming well established. They also thought that modernising their political system would be a good idea, and they opted for democracy. Bhutan held its first democratic elections recently, in 2006. Most of us have lived all our lives in peaceful, democratic countries, so we take democracy for granted. But what is really democracy? And how do you teach it to the people? How does a political system (like democracy) interacts with people's values? (And, by the way, what is a Buddhist monk doing with a gun?) Free entrance. We meet in the SKLO building (Kraneweg 33, Groningen). Friday 9th October 2026. At 19.30h (Open doors from 19h). PS: Getting a ticket here is not necessary, you can also just come along :)
