NZWG 50th PARTY IN THE PUB Celebrating 50 Years Supporting Screenwriters in Aotearoa New Zealand NZWG TURNS 50 Fifty years of stories. Millions of words. One blank page at a time. In 2026, the New Zealand Writers Guild turns 50. That's half a century of screenwriters staring down the terror and promise of a blank page. Fifty years of ideas scribbled on napkins, rewritten at kitchen tables, argued over in writers' rooms, and finally transformed into the films and television shows that have helped Aotearoa see itself. On 8 October 2026, we're marking the occasion the way writers actually celebrate... together, in a proper pub. Say kia ora to Party in the Pub: an informal, writer-first night at The Morningside Tavern, with a drink on arrival and food to share. We started the year planning a black-tie gala, but our writers told us they wanted a celebration they could see themselves in — and afford. So we reshaped it into something warmer, looser, and a lot more us. Sticky floor and all. It'll be celebratory, reflective, a little emotional, gloriously informal, and unapologetically writer-centric. Come as you are and raise a glass with us. We look forward to hosting you all!
