Being Tangata Tiriti: a Pākehā Project Taster A one-day workshop exploring the beautiful restorative work of being tangata Tiriti in Aotearoa. Who can we be for each other? ——————— We live in fluid times. So much that we thought was secure is shifting and changing. In times like these we need each other, and something to orient by. Here in Aotearoa, we have an extraordinary pou—Te Tiriti o Waitangi. So much more than a legal document; it is a covenant to be lived. It offers us a framework for living together in our difference, in mutually enriching ways. If the last few years have taught us anything, it's that the work of honouring Te Tiriti can't be left to others. It is ours to do, right here, right now. Join Rebecca and Becky from The Pākehā Project for a day of deep inquiry into who we are and who we can be as tangata Tiriti. This is an interactive, embodied and nourishing day where we work with our unique place in Aotearoa—our whakapapa, our nervous systems, the orthodox worldview we’ve inherited and how it lives in us and our institutions—to find what’s possible when we stop trying to fix the system from the outside and recognise we are the system rewiring itself. We'll explore what restorative, Tiriti-based systems change actually looks like—starting from the inside out. The day is grounded in the Pākehā Project’s kaupapa: that the work of being tangata Tiriti is beautiful, restorative work. It can also be uncomfortable work. And it is best done together. Expect to be challenged—gently, and in good company. We’ll host you at Heathcote Valley Community Centre, in the beautiful Heathcote Valley, Ōtautahi. There’ll be delicious kai throughout the day, and a chance to resource yourself in communion with others. We are so looking forward to welcoming you. ————————————————————————— Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] for any feedback or queries about this and our future workshops. ————————————————————————— About the facilitators Rebecca Sinclair (Pākehā - Scottish, English) Rebecca is a facilitator, coach, and complex systems geek - helping her fellow Pākehā come back into the flow of life, and let go of colonial patterns that separate us from ourselves, each other, and te taiao. She is fascinated by the intangible, the improper and the in-between and how everything is always so much more extraordinary than we might think. She is an experienced tertiary educator, Co-founder of The Pākehā Project, a certified Warm Data Lab Host with the International Bateson Institute, and Honorary Research Fellow at Toi Rauwhārangi, College of Creative Arts, Massey University. Becky Collett (Pākehā - English, Scottish, Russian, Irish) Becky has spent her entire life fascinated by humans, and is committed to a life of wild curiosity, fierce joy, and deep relationality. After studying industrial & organisational psychology (how people 'human' at work), she spent nearly two decades exploring that in the public sector, and is now experimenting with other ways to invoke more of our messy, joyful, human selves across work and life. She's an OG of the Pākehā Project, has been regularly running Tangata Tiriti workshops in the public sector for a couple years, and is super excited to bring this exploration to her home town of Ōtautahi!
