UC Alumni Movie Night: The Social Reckoning

Come along to our next UC alumni movie night for a screening of The Social Reckoning at Silky Otter Cinemas Wigram. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, this companion to The Social Network follows Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and journalist Jeff Horwitz as they expose the company’s closely guarded secrets. Inspired by true events, it raises questions about the power of social media and the consequences of what happens online. After the screening, we’ll be joined by Dr Cassandra Mudgway, Senior Lecturer in Law and an expert in online abuse and human rights, for a short talk and Q&A. Drawing on her research, Dr Mudgway will explore the real-world issues behind the film, from online harassment to the responsibility of social media companies to protect their users. Join us for night at the movies, with the opportunity to ask questions and take a closer look at issues reaching far beyond the screen. Tickets are $20 and include popcorn and one drink, with your choice of wine, beer or a soft drink.
