Fresh Off The Page: The Mothers

The iconic Asian playreading series 'Fresh Off The Page' lands in Ōtepoti! Be the first to see a brand new script in development, as presented by the best and brightest talent from right here in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Our reading for 2026 is The Mothers by Indie Raman. Do we define our circumstances, or do they define us? Through the shared story of Tamilian mother and daughter Ashira and Kefira, The Mothers explores what it means to be a matriarch, and how the responsibilities of family may not be so easily relinquished. About Indie: Indie Raman is an actress and writer who also works in costume design. Currently based in Ōtepoti Dunedin, she is a Tamilian of both Indian and Sri Lankan origins. She loves treading the nexus of deep cultural nuance and pragmatic modernism. Always a ‘theatre kid’ and dancer at heart, she engages performance and arts to highlight social issues and find communal solutions to them. PAT’s FOTP is her first foray into the world of writing for theatre and film. About Proudly Asian Theatre: Proudly Asian Theatre aims to connect and empower Asian talent to produce original and contemporary theatre works, to represent, entertain and break down barriers of acceptance and visibility in Aotearoa.
