Mount Maunganui Public Sand Art Class 18th September 2026 3:00pm-5:00pm On sand below Cenotaph Introduction to Sand Art with Kenrick. Learn about creativity, mindfulness, meditation, and active relaxation. No experience needed. Intended for Adults, younger ones welcome This session will be photographed for a magazine article. You may be photographed (from a distance) as part of this session. Please be early, as the tide waits for no person and our canvas will be gone very quickly. Lesson will start at 3pm Sharp. Lesson will start with my explain my background and why I started doing this practice, (in short covid lockdown and loosing my mind, went to the beach and drew in the sand, and felt calm, also as I have adhd it helps me keep busy, be creative and enjoy nature). Lesson will start with a few minutes to stop and sit and become aware of our surroundings. Using a short(1 min) grounding technique called 54321. Similar to this... (not my video) Then we will do a short 4 min guided mindfulness breathing exercise, called Box Breathing. Breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 second, out for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds. Similar to this... (not my video) I will then show some basic techniques of circle sand art using bamboo, string and a rake, then we will begin in our own circles where you can create as you wish with guidance from myself. These circles will be connected by a larger collaborative artwork which we will all work to complete. All equipment provided. Please bring sunscreen, water, snacks, and a warm jacket as the beach can be windy. The class will only be canceled for heavy rain. Light drizzle we will continue. If canceled you will have a chance to rebook for another session free of charge. All welcome. It is an active practice, so some physical fitness is required.
