Screenwriting Workshop

Join us for a screenwriting journey! Description: A screenwriting workshop for people who love stories but do not necessarily know where to begin. We start with films participants already carry with them, like a favourite scene, a line of dialogue, an image that stayed.. and look at what makes those moments work on screen. Rather than beginning with acts, beats or formulas, the workshop begins where ideas often begin in practice: with fragments. A character, an image, a tension, a line, a situation. From there, participants explore how a story gathers pressure and how an idea becomes something we can actually see and hear. THE EXPERIENCE Through film discussion, short scene and dialogue comparisons, question-based pair work and fast writing exercises, participants move from observation to creation. They experiment with image, action, dialogue and sound; follow questions instead of rushing to answers; test want, obstacle and consequence; open several possible directions; and finally choose one playable moment to write as a short scene. THE FILMS WE CARRY THE QUESTION DOOR THE PRESSURE ENGINE POSSIBILITY BURST THE PLAYABLE MOMENT THIS EXPERIENCE IS DESIGNED FOR • film lovers curious about how stories work from the inside • writers who want to explore a more visual, scene-based form • people with an idea, image or character but no clear plot yet • creative people who tend to overthink before they begin • beginners who want to try screenwriting without needing to know the rules first ABOUT THE FACILITATOR Ruya Zhang Ruya Zhang is a screenwriter and educator working across China and Europe.
